It has been the Friends’ vision to build an antique machinery storage and display building and we are excited to partner with you on this next chapter as we make this vision a reality. This exciting development has been approved by the Dane County Land and Water Resources Department, the Town of Westport, and the Village of Waunakee.
Complete the Farm is Schumacher Farm's campaign to raise $357,000 for a 6,000 square foot building and exhibit space to store and display the Farm's antique machinery. The new building will provide visitors with a fuller understanding of life in rural Wisconsin during the 1920s to 1930s Depression-era.
Why is the Center for Antique Machinery Needed?
Schumacher Farm is lucky to have numerous pieces of unique antique machinery that add to the farm experience. Unfortunately, many are stored offsite with some as far as Baraboo. Due to the delicate nature of these pieces, it is unsafe and impractical to bring them to the Farm. The new Center for Antique Machinery will store all of the equipment in one place allowing for exhibits and demonstrations.
How else will this new building benefit the Farm?
The lean-to will include a rotating exhibit space for visitors to learn about harvesting, planting, and other agricultural topics. Housing all of the equipment onsite will create opportunities for new types of workshops. Lastly, the building will open up new spaces around the farm where we historically kept large pieces of machinery in storage. These new spaces will allow us to develop new program areas and exhibits.
