Monarch Butterflies & How we can protect them

Join Master Gardener, Gae Bergmann, as she talks about the life of a Monarch butterfly and how she has raised over 900 of these beautiful butterflies. She has planted four varieties of milkweed plus a variety of flowers to nourish them, which has resulted in her homestead being certified as a "Monarch Waystation".

Attendees will learn about the monarch life cycle, why milkweed is necessary to that cycle and how to make their property more inviting to butterflies. The group will then go on a guided nature walk through our restored prairie to find monarchs on milkweed and identify other plants that attract the butterfly.

Attendees will receive a butterfly-friendly plant list and knowledge of monarch conservation practices that can be used in their own backyards.
